What makes ours different

The trouble with a digital gift is that there is nothing to give. You pay for it, a code lands in an inbox, and the moment of handing something over never happens.
So we made a certificate, designed the way our guides are designed. It has a line for their name, a line for yours, the date, the occasion, and room for a note in your own handwriting. Fill it in on this page and print it, or save it as a PDF and email it. Nothing about it looks like a receipt.
It is free and it is open to anybody. It carries no code, so the gift card itself stays where it belongs, in an email only the person you sent it to can use.

Three ways to hand it over
The gift card itself always arrives by email, with a code on it, as a perfectly good PDF you can print exactly as it comes. The certificate is what you give instead, if you want something warmer. You decide how much of it you use.
Print it and give it in person
Fill in the certificate, print it, write the note by hand. The code sits in an inbox until the envelope has been opened.
Email the certificate yourself
Save it as a PDF and send it whenever you like, so something from you arrives alongside the code email from us.
Skip the certificate
You do not have to use it at all. A gift card sent straight to their inbox is a complete gift on its own.
Giving it in person? Choose Email to You at checkout. If the code email goes straight to them, they will know what the envelope holds before you have handed it over.

None of these take more than a minute, and together they are the difference between a gift and a notification.
A mistyped address sends the gift to a stranger, and it is the most expensive typo in digital giving. If you are unsure of theirs, send it to yourself.
Checkout gives you 80 characters, which is a caption rather than a note. Spend them on something like “open the envelope first” and save the real note for the certificate.
A good notebook and a pen is the object that belongs beside this particular gift. It costs very little and it makes a practical present feel like a kind one.
An unexpected email with a code in it, from a company they have never heard of, looks like something to delete. One sentence from you turns it into something they were waiting for.

Nothing you type here is sent to us or stored anywhere. To save it as a PDF rather than print it, choose either button and then pick Save as PDF as the destination in the dialog that opens. The certificate carries no code and no value of its own. The gift card code is emailed by Haven Smith & Company when a card is bought, and that email is the gift.

No. Our gift cards never expire, so there is no date anybody has to keep track of.
Yes. If the order comes to less than the card, the balance stays on the card for next time. If it comes to more, the whole card goes toward it and they pay the difference. More than one card can go toward a single order.
No, and that is deliberate. A code is cash, and a printed page can be left on a counter or photographed. The code goes by email to the address you chose at checkout, and the certificate stays a keepsake.
You can, because it is free to use. It carries no value on its own, so it is only a real gift once a card has been bought and the code email has gone out.
No. If you can print a web page, you can print this, and every browser can save it as a PDF instead.
